Reason for being in rescue: Surrendered by owners to a rural NC shelter
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet, SC
Special Needs? Ginny is spayed, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Ginny was surrendered by her owners to a rural NC shelter. No information was provided; we have no history on her pre-rescue. Our best estimate is that Ginny is a Yorkshire terrier. She looks like one but we have no paperwork stating she is purebred. We cannot guarantee that she is hypoallergenic or that she won't shed.
Weight: 10 lbs
Height: 12 in
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Adoption Fee: $499
Fence needed? No
What kind of home would be best for me? Ginny is so versatile, she will fit in quite a few physical environments (standalone home, townhome, etc.) as long as she has her people by her side. Ginny is very close to Ellie Mae the chihuahua and another little chi here not yet up for adoption. We think she would love a small dog buddy to pal around with. While this is not essential, we are going to give first preference to adopters who have a snuggle buddy for Ginny. Ginny has never lived without another small canine companion.
What is my personality like? Ginny is little shy and a lot sweet. She has been someone's baby, it is obvious. She is friendly and attentive after just a few minutes. She enjoys the company of most other dogs but a few large (over 40 lbs) dogs irritate her, and she barks at them.
Ginny has not yet been introduced to cats or to leashes. We think she will learn leash walking skills quickly. She is also not crate trained. She will use a pee pad during the night. She loves to snuggle in the bed with someone, so we are also looking for those applicants who enjoy sharing their bed with their canine bestie.
How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly and inquisitive without being pushy.
Other tips and tidbits: We have no information on Ginny pre-rescue. Based on her overall health and condition she is estimated at 5 years old. We celebrate her birthday 09/28/2020.
House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
