Special Needs? Penny is up to date on vaccines for age and has been dewormed. She had an ear infection upon arrival and foster mom is working on resolving that. Her next recheck is scheduled for Tuesday 12/23/25. Penelope has a recessed vulva. Right now, she is showing none of the normal signs (excessive peeing, licking, etc). When identified at her age, this condition usually corrects after she goes through her first heat cycle (which we expect in mid to late January). At this age, it is often from immaturity and corrects as she develops. If it does not correct, it is a fairly simple procedure that can be done when she is spayed. When she is groomed, she needs to be rinsed thoroughly, and she needs a neat, clean sanitary clip around her vulva. Penny also gets carsick. Her foster mom is working with her on this and we have cerenia to send home for the drive home.

Spayed/Neutered: No. Penny is too young to be spayed. She will be adopted on a spay/neuter addendum that requires you to spay her within 9 months at your cost and provide proof of spay.

Fence needed? Yes, Penny requires a physically fenced yard with fencing 4 feet or taller.
What kind of home would be best for me? Penny's perfect home will have someone home more than they are away. We would prefer someone with standard poodle experience and most importanmtly, Penny needs a role model. Penny would thrive in a home with a younger (under 5 years old) dog who is playful and ready to show her the world. Fenced in yard is an absolute must and an active home that believes that dogs are companions and takes their dogs everywhere is also a must.
Poodle puppies are always in need of a canine friend, they love to run and play with one another. Poodle puppies are active, agile little babies, they need homes that are ready to tire them out both mentally and physically, so a fenced in yard will be required. Poodle puppies are very well rounded dogs, they do not meet strangers and would do well with a nice big family or a single owner! What matters most to a poodle puppy is a happy and excited owner ready to take on loving and training their new puppy! When raised around cats, with proper boundaries, puppies do very well, it is important to note that poodles can have a high prey drive. If you expect your puppy to get alone with your feline buddy, it's important to start socializing the puppy with the cat as soon as you can! This pup has not had contact with cats that we know of and will not have contact while with their current foster.
What is my personality like? Penelope is a natural-born cuddler, happily snuggling up on the couch or in bed, yet she's just as content relaxing in her kennel. With calming music, Penny sleeps soundly through the night. She's also a social butterfly, getting along wonderfully with dogs her own size. She is also learning, with gentle reminders, to be more considerate of her smaller friends.
Penny is still all puppy and like a toddler so that means if she can get into it she will and if she can get it in her mouth she will. Penny is such a joy to have around, and it is a blessing to watch her grow and become the fabulous dog we think she will be.
PUPPY POLICY:
Thank you for carefully considering the addition of a puppy to your family. Puppies can be a joyous experience, but they can also be a tremendous amount of work. Since our goal is to place each of our dogs in forever homes, we are especially cautious with puppies. We like to stress 3 major things when considering a puppy vs. an adult dog: 1) many adult dogs are well bred, well trained dogs who find themselves in rescue through no fault of their own, 2) adult dogs are eager to share their love and bond with their new family, and 3) puppies will always require far more time, energy, and training than an adult dog.
Our ideal puppy adopters are:
-experienced dog owners with a solid record of excellent vet care of their previous pets
-scheduled away from home for no more than 4 hours per day and have another canine companion already in the home
-stay at home type of people (work at home, home schoolers, retired, etc)
How do I act when I first meet new people? Cautious unless she is with her foster mom and then you see the happy go lucky puppy that is all Penny. The cautious, timid side will last about 12 to 24 hours at your home, then her normal bubbly personalty will emerge. She needs more life experience, and we think this initial shyness will go away.

When Penelope arrived mid November, her foster mom intended to make this forever. Life events have intervened and foster mom has realized that Penny needs more than she can give her now and asked us to find perfect for this perfect Penny girl.
House trained? Penny is thriving with potty training and has mastered using the doggie door. Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
