Reason for being in rescue: Ziggy was abandoned outside an animal shelter. Carolina Poodle Rescue pulled him from the shelter.
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? Ziggy is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. We have absolutely no history on Ziggy pre-rescue. Our best guess is that he is a doodle. We cannot guarantee that he is hypoallergenic or that he won't shed.
Weight: 48 lbs
Height: 24 in
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Adoption Fee: $699
Fence needed? No, but he would love one and would need an active owner dedicated to exercising him properly, if not.
What kind of home would be best for me? Ziggy would likely do best in a home that respects his independence and allows him to engage on his own terms. For someone looking for a low-key, undemanding companion who enjoys company without needing constant attention, Ziggy could be a wonderful match. While we haven't yet seen much interest in toys or playtime, he does get along well with other dogs of all sizes and genders. That said, he doesn't appear to rely on canine companionship and would do just fine as an only dog, enjoying a calm, low-pressure environment. Ziggy has been tested with cats - if anything, they scare him. He could live with cats, but it would be an adjustment.
What is my personality like? Ziggy is a handsome gray doodle (we think) with a gentle, easygoing personality and a very independent streak. We wish dogs could talk. Ziggy was abandoned outside a shelter with another dog - no history, just 2 scared and confused pups. He's a sweet boy who genuinely enjoys the presence of his people and is always happy to see them, but he shows his affection in a more subtle way. Ziggy isn't a dog who seeks out constant touch or cuddles. Instead, he's more of a "quiet companion," content to share space with you like a laid-back roommate rather than a shadow.
Ziggy is comfortable and well-mannered in his crate, keeping it clean and settling in with ease. We don't yet know what Ziggy is like on a leash, as he hasn't needed to go on walks so far, so this will be something his future family can gently explore with him at his own pace. Ziggy is new to rescue. He hasn't really engaged with toys or playtime yet.
How do I act when I first meet new people? Ziggy can be a little nervous and timid at first and does better if you give him time to feel out the environment. He needs a little time before approach and does better if you get on his level.
Other tips and tidbits: We have absolutely no history on Ziggy pre-rescue. Based on his overall health and condition he is estimated at 4 years old. We celebrate Ziggy's birthday as 1/2/2022.
House trained? While we do not know if Ziggy is house trained he keeps his crate clean overnight. Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
