What kind of home would be best for me? Valkyrie (or Val as her foster mom calls her) is looking for a peaceful, patient home where she can be socialized and learn how to be a dog. A home with children, loud noises or frequent activity will not work for Val. She needs time, space and understanding to continue to blossom and become more confident. Val will only be adopted to a home that is experienced with rescue, ideally rescuing and rehabilitating a dog that was part of a puppy mill.
One thing that is absolutely essential for Val is another confident, friendly dog in the home. She gains reassurance and courage from canine companionship and learns by watching her dog friends. A calm, steady role model who can show her that the world isn't so scary - that loud noises, new people, and changes can all "roll off like water" - will help her continue to grow and thrive.
If you are considering adopting Val - a dog raised in a breeding facility - please read this important article before you submit an application:
https://bestfriends.org/pet-care-resources/what-expect-when-rescuing-puppy-mill-dog

What is my personality like? Val is a beautiful Toy Poodle whose eyes tell a story of cautiousness. As a recent breeder release, many things in the big, wide world are still new to her - including learning to love and trust humans. In foster, she is slowly beginning to learn that life as a loved companion can be safe and kind.
Val is ready to start her new chapter with someone who sees her for who she is- a gentle soul with so much love to give, waiting for the right person (and canine friend) to help her continue her journey. You will have to go slow with Val. It will take time. You will teach her everything.
If you have the patience to let her set the pace, you'll be rewarded with one of the most heartfelt connections imaginable.
How do I act when I first meet new people? Val is shy and skittish.
Other tips and tidbits: Valkyrie's birthday is 03/23/2021
House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
