Fence needed? Absolutely. Finley has shone the tendency to bolt out doors or away when he is scared. A fenced in yard and diligent owner will be an angle in disguise for him.
What kind of home would be best for me? Finley is a little different from the rest, and what he needs most - above all else - is another dog in the home. Canine companionship is not optional for Finley; it is essential to his confidence, comfort, and emotional well-being. Having a steady dog friend helps him feel safe as he learns to navigate the world. Finley has been introduced to cats. They were clearly new to him. If anything, he was afraid. When they moved too quickly he ran - sweet boy!
Finley will need an adopter who is committed to continuing this work and helping him build positive associations at a pace that respects his boundaries. While he doesn't actively try to escape, he will test the door if the latches are not securely fastened, so proper crate setup is important. He absolutely requires a securely fenced yard, as he will bolt if frightened. A fence provides him with the safety he needs to explore and build confidence without risk.
Finley has never lived as a household pet and previously lived an outdoor life, so everything about being a pet is new to him. He is just beginning to learn that indoor life, comfort, and companionship are good things-and he's discovering that being a pet is actually pretty great.
What is my personality like? Finley is an almost two-year-old Labradoodle with a sensitive soul and a heart that truly needs understanding. Finley is currently fearful of leashes and car rides, but he is trying very hard and is already making progress. With patience, consistency, and gentle encouragement, he is learning that these experiences don't have to be scary. With continued, gentle interaction and consistency, he can grow into an attention-seeking companion, though it may take a couple of weeks of dedicated time for him to feel fully comfortable.
Time and consistency are everything for Finley. Finley is clean in his crate and goes in willingly for treats. Finley is looking for a calm, stable home without loud or constantly changing environments. He needs patience, routine, another dog, and adopters who understand that progress may be slow - but deeply rewarding. With the right support, Finley has the potential to grow into a loving, loyal companion who blossoms once he knows he is safe.
How do I act when I first meet new people? When meeting new people, Finley can be very shy and shut down at first. In a familiar, predictable environment, however, he begins to relax and warm up-often becoming friendly within about a week.
Other tips and tidbits: Finley's birthday is 10/11/2024.
House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
