Sweetie Pie | 5-Year-Old Foxhound | Happy Prancer with a Big Heart

Sweetie Pie is a 65-pound brown-and-white Foxhound who lives up to his name in every way. He's reliably house trained, usually standing by the door when he needs to go out, and has had little to no accidents in his foster home. On leash, he does fairly well-he may pull a bit at times, but he enjoys getting out to explore. When left home alone for a few hours, he's been a perfect angel, especially when crated with another dog nearby (and a little YouTube dog TV for company).

This friendly guy does great with other dogs of all sizes and enjoys canine companionship. He hasn't been tested with cats or children yet, but he's generally easygoing and affectionate with everyone he meets. Sweetie Pie is kennel trained, goes into his crate easily (especially with a treat), and sleeps through the night. He's also a low shedder and a polite eater who tends to graze rather than gulp his meals.

Sweetie Pie has a higher energy level and will thrive in an active home. Long walks, hikes, car rides, and outdoor adventures are right up his alley. Because of his energy and typical hound curiosity, he is not suited for apartment living and will need a home with a securely fenced yard (6-foot fence) where he can safely stretch his legs. He knows several commands, including stay, wait, and leave it, and loves to prance around happily before flopping over for belly rubs.

Sweetie Pie is currently heartworm positive, which is not contagious to other dogs or people, and Animal Rescue of the Rockies will cover the full cost of his treatment. His treatment will take place in Westminster and requires several veterinary visits over the course of the year, including injections that require all-day drop-off appointments. During treatment, he'll need to follow a strict rest protocol to prevent complications-meaning no running or high-energy exercise and only two short (10-15 minute) calm sniff walks per day. Once his treatment is complete, however, Sweetie Pie is expected to live a completely normal, happy, and active life..

Sweetie Pie would love an active home with plenty of companionship and affection-and once he's finished with treatment, he'll be ready for all the adventures life has to offer!



If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.

The adoption fee for this pet is $375. Our adoption fee covers the following:

Spay/neuter

Microchip

DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.

Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.

Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption.
