Winky is a 2 year old Pekingese that was rescued from a yucky backyard breeder situation in Arkansas. Despite a rough start in life, she is an absolute DELIGHT. She is still learning how to be in a home and is very puppy-like exploring everything. She is incredibly agile for a peke and loves her toys and her foster siblings. Winky is about 10lbs. She is timid with strangers at first and will bark but is getting better.
Potty training is going great and she will use a pee pad. If she has other resident dogs to help show her the ropes that will make the transition easier for her in her forever home. Winky currently shares the bed with everyone at night and does not have accidents overnight, or when left in her kennel. Her foster mom works from home a few days a week and is able to let dogs out over lunch on office days. This seems to work well for Winky, but she would do well in a number of home situations. Winky is a bit of a velcro dog and loves to follow her foster mom everywhere and tends to be underfoot - so she is a bit of a tripping hazard!
Winky would prefer a home with another dog companion. She has not been around cats, but does chase the resident chickens quite a bit, so cats might be a no go for her. Unless your cat likes to play with dogs. A fenced yard is required for Winky.
Winky does have a congenital eye disorder called Microphthalmia. Her left eye is essentially non-functioning, but is currently healthy. If she develops eye infections in the future she might need to have the eye removed, but lots of dogs with this condition do not need further intervention until later in life when glaucoma or other issues that tend to arise.
To help pay for vet bills and care (transportation, food, toys, etc..) a $400 donation is requested at the time of adoption.
