BIO: Poppy is a retired breeder dog who is learning to be a pet. That is where you come in; you need to have the patience to show her what a great life she could have. It would be helpful if you had another small, well-socialized adult dog she could learn from.
Poppy does enjoy her food and is learning about treats. But please, not too many, we want her to keep her girlish figure. Your job, should you decide to take it, is to teach her leash training and, with patience, potty training. Poppy is smart and food-motivated, so training should be an easy process if you are consistent.
This little girl will require some work on your part, but oh, the benefits are well worth it... cuddle time and doggie kisses!
Our must-haves for sweet Poppy include:
A fenced yard
Someone who is home more often than not, or another socialized dog to keep her company, but you must be home enough to help her with housetraining
Sadly, no apartments, high-rises, or condos, as Dachshunds like to bark at things that go bump in the night
Because she is so cute, she will not be available for adoption for long, so get your application in ASAP. We do help with transporting.
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
We cannot adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
