About Humane Society of East Texas

Founded in 1968 as the Humane Society of Smith County, we have cared for over 500,000 unwanted and abused animals. In 2010, we became a no-kill shelter, and in 2013, we changed our name to Pets Fur People to better reflect our mission of serving both animals and people through the power of pets. We are the oldest brick-and-mortar no-kill animal shelter in East Texas, offering a loving and healthy shelter for homeless dogs and cats in our community. While they wait for their perfect match, we ensure each animal receives the care and attention they deserve, helping them find a forever home.
