Nassau County Animal Services is committed to connecting adoptable pets with responsible, caring homes throughout our community. Each animal in our care has been evaluated and provided with necessary veterinary services, including vaccinations, microchipping, and spay/neuter prior to adoption. These efforts ensure that every pet is prepared for a safe and healthy transition into their new home. Adoption is a meaningful decision that not only changes the life of an animal, but also supports the ongoing ability of our shelter to serve animals in need. We invite members of the community to consider adoption and to visit Nassau County Animal Services to meet the dogs and cats currently awaiting placement. By choosing adoption, you help provide a second chance and a lasting impact.
About Nassau County Animal Services
We are a county-operated municipal shelter responsible for the intake, care, and adoption of stray animals, with a primary focus on reuniting pets with their owners whenever possible. Our agency serves approximately 715 square miles across Nassau County. In addition to our core responsibilities, we provide a community pet food pantry and operate a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program to support residents and reduce pet overpopulation. Our shelter offers a comprehensive range of services to support both animals and the community: Adoption Services: We place fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped pets into loving homes, ensuring they are healthy and ready for adoption. Animal Control & Field Services: Our team responds to reports of animal neglect, cruelty, and public safety concerns, handling more than 8,100 calls annually with professionalism and care. Lost & Found Services: We work diligently to reunite stray animals with their owners through our established Return-to-Owner process, which includes a five-business-day holding period. Medical Care & Spay/Neuter: Animals in our care receive essential medical services, including rabies vaccinations, deworming, and spay/neuter surgeries to support their health and help reduce pet overpopulation. Pet Licensing & Permits: We administer required pet licensing and rabies registration in accordance with local regulations. Volunteer Program: We welcome community members to support our mission through volunteer opportunities such as kennel care, dog walking, and animal socialization. Educational Outreach: Through community engagement, we promote responsible pet ownership, animal welfare, and public safety.
