About Humane Society of Sarasota County
For more than 70 years, the Humane Society of Sarasota County (HSSC) has been a trusted resource for pets and people in our community. Founded in 1952 and operating from the same Sarasota location ever since, HSSC is the area’s premier no-kill shelter, providing compassionate care for cats and dogs while helping lead lifesaving efforts across Florida. HSSC is known for saying “yes” to the animals who need help most and for working collaboratively to create better outcomes. In 2025, HSSC saved and positively impacted 3,628 animal lives through adoptions, reunifications, transfers, and TNVR (Trap–Neuter–Vaccinate–Return) efforts. Through its TAILS Program, HSSC helps under-resourced shelters strengthen lifesaving programs through mentorship, training, and collaboration. As HSSC approaches 75 years of lifesaving in 2027, the organization remains committed to innovation, compassion, and creating lasting change for animals and communities.
