About Española Humane
Española Humane has been a transformative force in Northern New Mexico, serving Española and Santa Fe County for more than 30 years with compassionate, innovative care for animals and the people who love them. Serving some of the region’s most underserved communities, the organization has built a model rooted in access, dignity, and trust. Their work extends far beyond traditional sheltering. Through free spay/neuter, free vaccinations, and programs like Paws in the Pen and Pet Amigos, Española Humane addresses the root causes of pet overpopulation while keeping families and pets together. In 2025, Española Humane cared for 3,286 animals, achieved a 90% live release rate, performed more than 6,600 spay/neuter surgeries, administered over 17,000 free vaccines, and completed 771 specialty procedures for families facing financial hardship. Through innovative partnerships, donor support, and community-driven programs, Española Humane continues expanding access to veterinary care across Northern New Mexico. What sets us apart is its commitment to removing barriers to care and delivering services with compassion and cultural understanding. Our work strengthens families, improves public health, and enhances communities throughout Rio Arriba and Santa Fe County.
